Osmosis at TransformingEDU 2014
Feb 1, 2014
In January we had the unique opportunity to present at TransformingEDU, an annual conference in Las Vegas that brings together some of the most prominent thinkers in education. Formerly known as HigherEdTech, the one-day meeting took place at the International CES which is where many of the most innovative and revolutionary technologies are launched each year.
Our co-founder and CEO, Shiv, joined an impressive list of speakers which included Dr. Anant Agarwal (President of edX), Anne Dwane (Chief Business Officer of Chegg), Brian Kibby (President of McGraw-Hill Higher Education), and Brian Whitmer (Co-founder of Instructure, makers of Canvas). The focus of his panel was on the new wave of technologies that can move education beyond textbooks and laptops.
Osmosis is a clear example of this type of technology given that our app focuses on helping students learn and retain information on-the-go. In addition to discussing the mobile innovations behind Osmosis, Shiv also described some of the educational gadgets that the Osmosis team is interested in - including an anecdote from our early days when he tested the concept of "audio osmosis" using an EEG headband. Given Ryan and Shiv's backgrounds in neuroscience (Ryan has a PhD in neuroscience from Cambridge, which he got on a Marshall Scholarship), Osmosis is looking forward to integrating cutting-edge technologies such as the ones discussed in the presentation.
Here is his full presentation from TransformingEdu. Enjoy!
