Publish with Osmosis is a new effort by Osmosis designed to encourage conversation of thoughts and insights people have about medical education. We are excited to announce our writers who will be contributing content concerning the various topics associated with medical education!
Brian Boden is a second year medical student at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was born on Long Island, New York and attended Villanova University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in History, focusing on the Ancient Mediterranean period and Late Antiquity. In his free time, Brian enjoys expanding his knowledge of the past and clearing his head with running.
My name is Silia DeFilippis and I'm currently a fourth-year medical student at Weill Cornell Medical College. I'm pursuing a career in internal medicine. I'm very interested in medical education as well as the field of gastroenterology and look forward to working with the Publish with Osmosis team.
Alice is a 5th year MD/PhD student at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ. She received her undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics, and Molecular & Cellular Biology. She is currently working on her PhD in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Department of Physiological Sciences, where her dissertation project involves, but is not limited to, heart and lung organogenesis and regeneration, 3-D printing of stem cells and scaffolds, novel methods of CT/MRI imaging, and cellular bioenergetics and metabolism. She has taught physiology and anatomy courses in graduate school, and has had many previous research experiences in other fields, including orthopaedic surgery, urology, genetic engineering, and biomedical engineering. In her spare time, she enjoys playing music, visiting new places, and making balloon animals for friends. Alice is very passionate about science, research, and medical education, and is often involved in efforts to make science and medical education more accessible and understandable. She is very stoked to be a part of the Osmosis team.
William Gunther is a second year medical student at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa and has worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for a private ambulance service. In addition to being an avid writer, William currently holds positions in his school's Student Osteopathic Association for Research and Fine Arts clubs. When not studying, William enjoys attending Tampa Bay Lightning hockey games and trying not to lose his sanity while watching his USF Bulls. He currently resides in Davie, Florida.
Myles is a medical student at the National University of Ireland Galway.He has a keen interest in neurology, orthopaedics and surgery.
Prior to medical school Myles studied music and then qualified to teach. Myles is currently a resident tutor at the Mayo Academy of Musical Excellence. Throughout medical school he has been actively involved with several charities including the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul and has founded the Kiltimagh Music Group. On Osmosis; ‘I am absolutely delighted to be working with the team and to be helping contribute to this amazing resource. The guys at Osmosis really understand what works for students. It’s a great app, a great team and a fantastic opportunity to work with the best’.
Alex Roseman is a second year medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Neuroscience from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. After Oberlin, he has worked in research at Harvard Medical School, community health through AmeriCorps VISTA, and community organizing as a Fall Organizing Fellow for the 2012 Barack Obama Presidential Campaign. In addition to his Bachelor of Arts degree, he received a Certificate in Public Health Core Concepts from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Outside of medical school, he enjoys playing jazz guitar in a trio and big band, biking, and visiting the many Minneapolis breweries. Through Publish with Osmosis, he is interested in using scientific research of medical students to help guide medical students to succeed in pre-clinical years, board exams, clerkships and getting into residencies. He want to provide a space for medical students to go to to get answers that they would normally go to SDN or reddit to answer.
Tiffany Son is a third year medical student MD candidate at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ. At the University of Arizona, she obtained a Master’s degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology. She provides energy to the Osmosis team with her enthusiasm and collaboration for better education and growth in the medical community. She enjoys hiking, playing the electric violin, and the simple pleasure of watching baseball games in hopes to visit all thirty stadiums (only 27 more to go).
Alan Tang is a first-year student at Vanderbilt University who is fulfilling his pre-med requirements while majoring in economics. Alan is originally from Vermont and currently lives in Amherst, Massachusetts. Alan aspires to be a neurosurgeon in the future. Outside of school, Alan swims competitively and enjoys fishing, boating and reading.
David Waters Is a current third year medical student from Sioux Falls, South Dakota receiving his medical education from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He also completed his undergraduate studies at Creighton in Medical Anthropology. He is currently pursuing the field of Pathology with an interest in the area of forensics. Ideally, he plans on moving to Chicago for residency and his Pathology career to be with his Fiancee who works for the Cook County Sheriff's Office. When not studying medicine, he likes to take trips to see his fiancee and their two dogs, Ginger and Felix.
