Today, we’re shining a spotlight on the International Food Information Council (IFIC), which Osmosis has partnered with to create evidence-based nutrition information.

What is the International Food Information Council (IFIC)?

The International Food Information Council (IFIC) is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to producing and promoting evidence-based resources on food and health. IFIC is staffed by nutrition and food safety experts, and its mission is centered on science communications and consumer research.

IFIC is known for convening academic, government, and private industry experts to evaluate scientific questions about the food system, and is funded by contributions from food, beverage, and agriculture companies. Their work derives from peer-reviewed science and the work of authoritative bodies such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and others.

IFIC in partnership with Osmosis

Osmosis has collaborated with IFIC to create and share nutrition information with future doctors, who are trusted as a source of information about evidence-based dietary recommendations. As doctors receive little formal nutrition education in their training, IFIC has spearheaded the effort to make nutrition education accessible in partnership with Osmosis. IFIC hopes to build a bridge between food and medicine professionals, and disseminate valuable information to the public.

We’re excited to have created the Nutrition 101 video series with IFIC, which has received over 1.3 million views as of September 2020! This is a testament to the importance of both IFIC’s and Osmosis’s missions: Osmosis as a leading educator of health professionals, and IFIC as a trusted resource for the most current scientific evidence about food.

Building bridges

In addition to creating evidence-based nutrition and health content for the public, IFIC also translates many of its materials into Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, ensuring broader access to valuable scientific information. In an increasingly globalized world, it’s more important than ever that we create online content with a global audience in mind.
