Did I expect Osmosis to fulfill them so completely, though? I have to say no&#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230; then I joined the Osmosis Healthcare Leadership Initiative (formerly known as the Osmosis Medical Education Fellowship or OMEF) program!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"OMEF Welcome Video\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8DN6gA2Aqms?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Osmosis_Values\"><\/span><strong>The Osmosis Values<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For anyone who is unfamiliar, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.osmosis.org\/learn\/Osmosis's_vision,_mission,_and_values\">6 Osmosis Values<\/a>&nbsp;are&#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Start with the heart<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Spread joy<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Have each other\u2019s backs<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Open your arms<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reach further<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Imagine more<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Osmosis&#039;s vision, mission, &amp; values\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WKzBJegZ-hM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_the_Osmosis_Healthcare_Leadership_Initiative_OHLI_program\"><\/span>What is the Osmosis Healthcare Leadership Initiative (OHLI) program?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The OHLI community consists of engaged Osmosis learners from around the world. Made up of nearly 150 students and doctors, it\u2019s segmented into regional and international levels and organized so that everyone can become well-acquainted with each over the course of the program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the beginning of the program, we are taken under the wing of a Regional Lead with whom we communicate regularly. I was very lucky to have had a role model in many ways\u2014my RL always took it upon herself to encompass the Osmosis values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By practicing the Osmosis values, my RL created an&nbsp;<strong>open, welcoming environment<\/strong>. This, in turn, encouraged involvement, easing these values into us as members of one OHLI family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have a vibrant communications group with live updates as events are run, alongside a few other systems put in place to facilitate innovation and exchange of ideas. All of this blossomed into a&nbsp;<strong>vibrant, cozy community<\/strong>&nbsp;that I\u2019m very pleased to be part of!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some of my favorite elements of the Osmosis Healthcare Leadership Initiative; hopefully, they encourage you to join today!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.osmosis.org\/community\"><strong><u>\u2192 Apply to become an OHLI today!<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_supportive_community\"><\/span>A supportive community&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By joining the Osmosis Team Slack, we have a chance to network with other students and professionals, get feedback on things we\u2019re working on, and learn from people, whether it\u2019s about study tips, effective learning habits, personal interests, or accounts of what it\u2019s like to attend medical school in different countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Opportunities_to_spread_joy\"><\/span>Opportunities to spread joy&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re frequently encouraged to add a moment of sunshine to someone\u2019s day by sending an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.osmosis.org\/spreadjoy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Osmosis Spread Joy eCard<\/a>. These cards, featuring the Osmosis trademark organ characters, come with graphics relevant to every occasion. They\u2019re perfectly personalizable and a great way to keep in touch with pals to let them know you were thinking of them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_place_to_celebrate_your_achievements\"><\/span>A place to celebrate your achievements<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the OHLI program, we celebrate our successes with students all around the world. \u201cHype posts\u201d once a week mean we\u2019re always connected and learning about each other, with the freedom to choose how much we want to share professionally or personally.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I always enjoyed hearing highlights from my teammates\u2019 weeks, sharing advice on common issues, or working together during co-working hours. During these sessions, I\u2019d feel very productive, but I also had time to reflect on my personal and professional developments and share them with a highly receptive group of fellow learners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the monthly OHLI meeting, all the different cohorts get together to share updates, milestones, and shoutouts on small to large successes. Some examples include engagements, weddings,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.osmosis.org\/blog\/2020\/06\/04\/all-your-usmle-step-1-questions-answered-the-osmosis-ultimate-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Step scores<\/a>, and research publications!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" src=\"https:\/\/www.osmosis.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/the-best.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1767\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.osmosis.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/the-best.png 700w, https:\/\/www.osmosis.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/the-best.png?resize=300,200 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Host_fun_edifying_events\"><\/span>Host fun, edifying events<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the OHLI program, I\u2019ve had many opportunities to host events, whether they were in-person (pre-COVID) events at my school or virtual events like study sessions. During the study sessions, we\u2019d share answers to case-based learning questions before condensing and distilling clinically relevant information to introduce to pre-clinical students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being in a position to apply and diffuse knowledge as a peer mentor was a joyful experience, and it helped me solidify the knowledge I needed for my clerkships!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Free_Osmosis_access_for_my_friends\"><\/span>Free Osmosis access for my friends<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being able to give out two weeks of Osmosis was something my friends definitely benefited from! They really enjoyed the consistent, concise experience Osmosis offers through their video library and learned a lot using the flashcards, questions, and High-Yield Notes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As an OHLI, being able to share the joy of learning by Osmosis was a surefire way to win the hearts of my fellow medical students and make a difference at my school!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"About_the_Author\"><\/span><strong>About <\/strong>the Author<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Sadia Zaman is in her fifth year of medicine at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/medicine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Imperial College London<\/a>, UK, and a participant in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.osmosis.org\/omef\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Osmosis Medical Education Fellowship program<\/a>. Sadia has an interest in an array of specialties within medicine, including cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and more.
