These five pathways require applicants to attain a <strong>satisfactory score on the Occupational English Test (OET)<\/strong>, an English-language proficiency assessment.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let&#8217;s try and answer the most <strong>frequently asked questions <\/strong>to clear up some confusion!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_the_OET\"><\/span>What is the OET?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The OET is an international <strong>English proficiency test<\/strong> that assesses the <strong>language communication skills<\/strong> of healthcare professionals. <strong>OET Medicine<\/strong> is designed <strong>specifically for physicians<\/strong>: the ECFMG chose this test to determine if a candidate meets the <strong>minimum English skills<\/strong> required to <strong>practice medicine in the US<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OET assesses English proficiency in different <strong>types of communication<\/strong>. After that, you have <strong>forty (40) minutes to write a letter<\/strong> according to the task. In the writing session, you will be assessed for <strong>purpose, content, conciseness and clarity, genre and style, organization and layout, <\/strong>and <strong>language<\/strong>. The reading is divided into three parts A, B, and C. Part A is done alone, and it is <strong>15 minutes<\/strong>. While parts B and C are taken in tandem, you have <strong>45 minutes<\/strong> <strong>to complete both<\/strong> (so make sure you <strong>monitor the time<\/strong> carefully). Part B consists of <strong>six short texts of about 100-150 words from a healthcare workplace<\/strong>, where you will get one <strong>multiple-choice question<\/strong> with three options about each text. Part C consists of <strong>two long texts of up to 800 words<\/strong>, in which each text covers a <strong>specific topic <\/strong>and is <strong>divided into paragraphs<\/strong>. In Part C, you will get <strong>eight multiple-choice questions with four options<\/strong>. Once you get the card, you have <strong>three minutes to prepare<\/strong>. Then, you have <strong>five minutes to perform the role-play<\/strong>. These include <strong>master classes<\/strong> (videos that will help you understand the exam), <strong>books, sample tests, writing guides,<\/strong> etc. You can <strong>find these resources<\/strong> on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/oet.com\/learn\/preparation-information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>OET&#8217;s preparation portal<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the materials you use, as well as preparation time, are mainly dependent on your <strong>English proficiency<\/strong>, everyone\u2014even <strong>native English speakers<\/strong>\u2014is advised to <strong>take assessment tests<\/strong> to familiarize themselves with the <strong>format of the exam<\/strong> and make sure they <strong>know what to do on exam day<\/strong>. In the pre-registration, you will enter your <strong>information, preferred test date(s), <\/strong>and the<strong> country and city<\/strong> <strong>where you wish to take the test<\/strong>. Once you have completed the pre-registration, the OET will send you emails about the <strong>available test locations and dates, materials<\/strong> you may need <strong>to help you prepare<\/strong> for the tests, and instructions on the <strong>next steps<\/strong> to <strong>book your exam venue and date<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can also <strong>book your exam directly<\/strong> before filling out the pre-registration form from the OET website if you find a suitable venue and date.
