A 71-year-old man comes to the emergency department because of severe lower abdominal pain for the last 4 hours. He has not urinated for the past 24 hours and adds that he has had poor urine flow and difficulty initiating urination for the past 6 months; he also needs to get up multiple times throughout the night to urinate.
