Breathing control

Summary of Breathing control
Breathing is controlled by centers in the brainstem to maintain the PaO2 and PaCO2 within the normal ranges even under widely varying conditions like exercise. Chemoreceptors in the brain and periphery, mechanoreceptors in the lungs and joints, control centers in the medulla and pons, and respiratory muscles are all involved in the regulation of breathing.
