Summary

Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract involving the stomach and the intestines. Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Gastroenteritis can be caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites, or toxins. It is usually a self-limiting illness and often resolves itself or with supportive treatment. However, in some cases, it can be serious and require hospitalization.
