Summary

Gestational diabetes mellitus is a type of diabetes mellitus that develops during pregnancy. It happens when the body's insulin receptors fail to respond to insulin properly, resulting in abnormally high blood glucose levels. Gestational diabetes is related to physiological events during pregnancy, such as the production of human placental lactogen which might interfere with these insulin receptors.
