Ischemic colitis is a compromise in the blood flow to the colon, which results in ischemic injury, followed by possible bowel infarction and perforation. It happens when there's an interruption in the blood vessels that supply the colon or severe hypoperfusion due to shock. Symptoms can include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and bloody stool.
