Labyrinthitis also known as otitis interna, is an inner ear infection that causes inflammation of the inner ear labyrinth. This can lead to vertigo, dizziness, and a loss of balance. It can be caused by a viral or bacterial infection (especially as a complication of acute otitis media), but often it is idiopathic, meaning there is no clear cause.
