Orchitis
Summary of Orchitis
Orchitis is infection of the testes, typically with mumps virus. Symptoms are testicular enlargement, pain, tenderness, and swelling. Systemic symptoms include fever, headache, and myalgias. Diagnosis is clinical, but ultrasound must be done to rule out other causes of acute scrotum. Treatment is symptomatic, usually with analgesics and hot or cold packs. Antibiotics are given if bacterial infection is identified.
