Otitis media
Summary of Otitis media
Otitis media refers to an inflammatory condition of the middle ear. The two main types are acute otitis media and otitis media with effusion. Acute otitis media (common bacterial causes include Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis) may present with abrupt onset ear pain in young children along with pulling at the ear, increased crying, and poor sleep. Decreased eating and a fever may also be present.
