Summary
Rhabdomyolysis is a condition in which muscle tissue breaks down, releasing a protein called myoglobin into the bloodstream. Myoglobin is harmful to the kidneys and may lead to kidney failure. Symptoms may include muscle pains, vomiting, and confusion, with severity depending on the extent of muscle damage and renal impairment. There is also muscle weakness, dark urine, and decreased urine output. Management involves rehydration, electrolyte replacement, and in severe cases, dialysis to help the kidneys clear the myoglobin from the bloodstream.
