A 70-year-old man comes to the office due to the progressive growth of skin lesions that appear on his back. He first noticed them 6 months ago, and since then they have increased in number. He mentions that the lesions often bleed with minor trauma. He is worried that he might have cancer because his father died of skin cancer, but he cannot recall the type. He is a retired computer engineer and spends most of his time reading and playing with his grandchildren. Medical history is significant for type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertriglyceridemia.
