A 61-year-old woman is hospitalized for new-onset weakness. Two days ago, she said that both of her feet began tingling and her legs began feeling weak. These symptoms rapidly worsened yesterday resulting in a fall and prompting an evaluation in the emergency department. Past medical history is noncontributory, and she takes no medications. She received routine immunizations three weeks ago. Temperature is 37.0°C (98.6°F), pulse is 78/min, respirations are 14/min, blood pressure is 130/84 mmHg, and oxygen saturation is 98% on room air. On physical exam, there is symmetric bilateral lower extremity weakness and sensory loss with absent deep tendon reflexes. A bedside forced vital capacity is normal. A diagnostic lumbar puncture shows an elevated cerebrospinal fluid protein level and normal white blood cell count. Electrodiagnostic studies show conduction delay and a denervation pattern. In addition to supportive care, which of the following is the most appropriate next step in management?
