Microscopic colitis is a form of colitis, or inflammation of the colon, that presents with normal macroscopic appearance of the bowel on colonoscopy. However, for unknown causes, it microscopically presents with inflammatory cells and collagenous infiltrates on its histological examination. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramps, bloating, and nausea.
