Osmosis was founded by Shiv Gaglani and Ryan Haynes, two medical students who wanted to improve how healthcare students learn complex medical topics. Their goal was to build a platform that makes medical education more engaging and accessible. The company was acquired by Elsevier in 2021.

Osmosis content is created by a content team of medical, nursing, and healthcare professionals working with an editorial board and a global network of more than 100 physicians, nurses, and healthcare experts. These clinicians and educators develop and review Osmosis videos, quizzes, flashcards, and other learning materials to ensure the content is accurate and educationally effective.
