Laura Welke completed her doctoral work in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Boston University School of Medicine. During her tenure Laura worked in the Laboratory for Cognitive Neurobiology and had the unique opportunity to be trained in primate neurosurgery and behavior under a few of the leading experts in medial temporal lobe anatomy.Laura’s dissertation focused on the functional interactions of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the medial temporal lobe system.Following the completion of her PhD, Laura held a faculty appointment in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at SUNY Downstate Medical School in New York. She then accepted an appointment at Ross University School of Medicine where she served in a variety of leadership roles including Vice Chair for the Department of Anatomy, Neuroscience course director, Module Director for the Nervous and Psychiatric I module, faculty recruiter and talent acquisition liaison and Assistant Dean, Medical Sciences Faculty Affairs. Dr. Welke has been honored with several awards and recognitions including several Ron Taylor Awards, Adtalem TEACH awards, the Adtalem Teaching Excellence Award and several student nominated "Most Valuable Professor" or "Favorite Professor" accolades over the years. Laura is now the Founding Campus Dean for Western Atlantic University School of Medicine with a pre-clerkship campus located in Freeport, Grand Bahama. She is excited to welcome WAUSM’s charter class in January 2022. Laura also has a home in the Commonwealth of Dominica that she visits when time allows. Laura has been delighted to work as an Osmosis OFR, has been impressed by the awesome team at Osmosis and is thrilled about the new neuroanatomy videos series!
