TL;DR: If you’re an Osmosis Nursing learner, you now have access to over 1,200 questions in the Nursing quiz builder! We’ve also updated the backend a bit to make it a seamless experience for you.

You will:

  • Study questions that mirror the computer-based questions you’ll see on exam day. This helps cut down on test anxiety and prepares you to perform at your best.
  • Be able to identify possible challenges in your studying so you can address them easily and quickly.
  • Have a simple way to prepare yourself for your classes. You’ll get more out of your lectures, benefit from more active learning, and even participate more during class.

So, how can a simple Quiz Builder do all that? Well, first things first…

1,200+ updated questions in the Osmosis NCLEX-RN® Question Bank

What’s great about these questions is that they uniquely prepare you for exam day. This is because they mirror what you’ll see on the actual NCLEX so you’re studying in the same way the exam will be testing you.

More specifically, here are 3 ways the questions themselves will help you:

1. Every question provides rationales for each correct and incorrect answer, as well as a major takeaway

In these explanations, we often include a visual (like an illustration or summary table) to help you remember.

We don’t mean to brag, but this is something Osmosis does uniquely well. In providing such detailed information, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of each question in a way that helps you retain what you’ve just learned.

Also, we’ve prioritized accessibility with these questions. They are WCAG 2.1 AA compliant for color contrast and visual design. This means those with colorblindness should have a great learning experience.

2. You’ll even be prepared for the future of nursing with Next Generation NCLEX-style questions!

In April of 2023, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is launching a new version of the NCLEX, called Next Generation NCLEX (NGN).

The focus of this new NCLEX? Clinical judgment, based on the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (CJMM).

In order to measure a test-taker’s clinical judgment, NCSBN has developed several new question types. Osmosis is already creating questions that match each of the new NGN question types.

3. And, you can get as specific as you want so your self-assessments are even more effective

You’re able to use multiple filters at the same time, which means you have a totally personalized quizzing experience that can make your strengths stronger and weaknesses… also stronger!

For example, you can choose to quiz yourself on:

Health Assessment questions (filter: Core Content)

within

Oxygenation and Homeostasis (filter: Nursing Concepts)

that are the type

Multiple Response (filter: Question Type)

Next: Using these filters to build truly effective quizzes that help you reach your goals in nursing school and beyond.

How to use these new filters to get the most out of your quizzes

We’ll break this down by the top level filter, what’s included in each one, and why they’ll help you get the best learning experience possible.

Core Content filter

These filters are a way for you to select, view, and self-quiz on sets and subsets of questions that are based on common topics in your nursing school curriculum.

This filter will help you create a quiz of whatever length you want with similar questions to what you’re likely to see on your exam. It’s also a great way to build quizzes that supplement your classroom and online learning.

Under this filter, you can break questions into:

  • Adult Health
  • Critical Care
  • Developmental Stages
  • Foundations of Care (fundamentals content + A&P + patho)
  • Health Assessment
  • Leadership and Management
  • Maternal Newborn
  • Mental Health
  • Pediatrics
  • Pharmacology
  • Dosage Calculation

Nursing Concepts filter

Since it’s impossible to learn everything there is to know about healthcare, many nursing programs have turned to a concept-based curriculum. What this means is that you’re given an example within a chosen concept.

Let’s take the topic “Asthma” as an example. It’s under the concept of “Oxygenation and Homeostasis”. Once you learn about asthma and the care that clients who have asthma require, those principles can be applied to other topics within the concept of “Oxygenation and Homeostasis”, like pneumonia.

The idea is to help you see patterns and make connections between related topics so you can apply your existing knowledge and skills to new scenarios, both in the classroom and in clinical practice.

Continuing the “Oxygenation and Homeostasis” example, you’ll be able to create a quiz of any chosen length that has questions tagged to that filter. You can use these quizzes to prepare for exams, to supplement classroom / online learning, or, even to discover areas of strength and weakness while preparing for licensure examination.

As a note, Nursing Concepts are based on Gidden’s & NMNEC guidelines.

Under the Nursing Concepts filter, you can break questions into:

  • Homeostasis and Regulation
  • Oxygenation and Homeostasis
  • Protection and Movement
  • Emotional Processes
  • Cognitive and Behavioral Processes
  • Client Attribute Concepts

NCLEX Client Needs Categories filter

This is the organizational structure used for the NCLEX examination determined by NCSBN. It defines nursing actions and functions for clients in all settings. Any student in a pre-licensure setting will find this set of filters and subfilters helpful. This is because each question is tagged with a Client Needs Category, and mirrors what you’ll see on exam day.

Under the NCLEX Client Needs Categories filter, you can break questions into:

  • Safe and Effective Care Environment
  • Health Promotion and Maintenance
  • Psychosocial Integrity
  • Physiological Integrity

Cognitive Level (Bloom’s Taxonomy) filter

These categories go from the more simple to the more complex. Questions that are categorized as “Remember” include the more basic ability to recall facts and basic concepts… all the way up to “Analyze” which tests your more complex ability to draw connections between ideas.

You can use this filter to choose the level of question to be quizzed on. As an example, let’s say you’re building an “Adult Health Cardiovascular” quiz, with all questions at the level of “Apply” and “Analyze”. You’ve customized the quiz to test both how well you can recall an answer, as well as how well you are able to put that information into context.

Under the Cognitive Level (Bloom’s Taxonomy) filter, you can break questions into:

  • Analyze
  • Apply
  • Understand
  • Remember

Question Type filter

This describes the functionality of the questions available to you in the Quiz Builder.

These specific question types mirror what is available on the NCLEX and NGN to help expose you to these computer-based question types and prepare you to answer them on the NCLEX.

Why Osmosis stands out is because we’ve paid special focus to these question types, offering more than many other similar platforms. Not only that, but each question provides you with both correct and incorrect answer explanations, along with an easy-to-remember takeaway.

Under the Question Type filter, you can break questions into:

  • Multiple Choice
  • Select all that apply
  • Fill-In-The-Blank
  • Hot Spot
  • Ordered Response
  • Cloze
  • Ordered Drag and Drop
  • Graphic Item
  • Exhibit Item

Next Generation NCLEX-specific filter

This could be a “Clinical Judgment Model Layer III” filter.

Put simply, the NCSBN has developed a method for assessing your clinical judgment and decision making skills.

This filter will help you select questions that mirror this new framework and prepare you to be tested with it.

QSEN Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QESN) Competencies filter

Designed to prepare you to continuously improve the quality and safety of healthcare systems. There is a vital focus on QSEN in curriculum development for nursing programs, so Osmosis will help prepare you to meet these requirements by helping you test yourself on them.

BSN Essentials filter

We could create a framework that focuses on the baccalaureate nursing curriculum. This way, you’ll be able to filter through questions to find those most relevant to your students in nursing school.

National League for Nursing (NLN) Competencies filter

NLN Competencies are a guide for nurse faculty to design a curriculum that prepares you to practice in a dynamic healthcare environment. Creating a filter specifically for these kinds of questions will help you.
