Osmosis.org has surpassed two million YouTube subscribers to become one of the largest and most recognizable health and education channels on the platform which reaches over two-billion signed-in monthly users. This is a significant milestone towards Osmosis’s goal of educating over a billion students, clinicians, patients, and the general population seeking authoritative and accessible healthcare information by 2025.
“Our involvement with YouTube has been a powerful motivator for Osmosis team members. Many of us joined Osmosis because we believe in our vision that ‘Everyone who cares for someone will learn by Osmosis,’” said Vince Waldman, PhD, the Head of Content Operations at Osmosis. “YouTube helps us realize that vision by giving us a platform used by billions of people to share our videos.”
To date, Osmosis videos have been viewed more than 165 million times on YouTube alone by learners in over 230 countries and territories (www.osmosis.org/world), many of whom have translated the content into dozens of languages from Arabic to Vietnamese. Tens of millions more viewers have watched these videos on the Osmosis web and mobile-learning platform as well as partner websites including WebMD/Medscape, Wikipedia, The Manuals, and the National Organization for Rare Disorders.
“We couldn’t be more proud of our international team of content experts, including 30 script writers and editors from nearly a dozen countries,” added Yifan Xiao, MD, the Director of Instructional Design at Osmosis. “Together with our illustrators, voiceover artists, and other teammates we’ve been able to Reach Further than any of us originally thought possible.”
Given the reach and quality of its content, Osmosis was tapped by YouTube earlier this year to create material on a variety of health topics, including COVID-19 and vaccines.
“We are thrilled to see Osmosis reach this significant milestone — it’s so important to engage people with information about their health that they can easily understand, and the team at Osmosis are experts at creating videos that make it fun to learn about even complex topics,” said Dr. Garth Graham, the Global Head of Healthcare and Public Health Partnerships at YouTube. “Their approach to health education is truly making a difference.”
