Summary of Satiety
The centers controlling appetite and feeding behavior are located in the hypothalamus. In particular, the satiety center is in the ventral posterior nucleus of the hypothalamus and the feeding center is in the lateral hypothalamic area. The arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus gives information to the satiety and feeding centers through the anorexigenic and orexigenic neurons, respectively. The first mediate their information through the release of pro-opiomelanocortin, the second through the release of neuropeptide Y.
