Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is a type of arthritis that affects children and teens. It is an autoimmune joint disease lasting more than six weeks in children less than 16 years of age. It causes pain, swelling, and stiffness in the joints. The symptoms of juvenile idiopathic arthritis can range from mild to severe, and they may come and go over time.
